I stayed at a friend of a friends house in Missoula who happened to be out of town the weekend I was visiting. I couldn't help but take some photos. She had the most amazing garden that I had the pleasure of watering everyday and just the obvious care and thought that went into her place was so inspiring.  A priority for my new place is some type of outdoor space so that I can have a sitting area and some plants and herbs growing.

I love these vintage tin can gardens that I am seeing everywhere. They are so festive and pretty  - I just had to add my own little collection of favorites to the blogosphere. I'm going to start checking in the local antique store for some tins to experiment with...

The sun has been shining in full force for the past few days and though I know Spring is not yet here, I want to be outside with my hands in the dirt, planting and tending to gardens... I love this idea for a two-tiered herb garden and will definitely be adding this to my 'to-plant' list when the time comes...  so pretty.

A couple of weeks ago I spent a day at the Renegade Craft Fair in San Francisco.  So many amazing vendors and handmade goods.  My craft fair partner - a.k.a. my mom - said she wanted to buy me a little gift while we were there and as soon as I saw the Planted table that was it.  Afterall, how long could my love for succulents and terrariums go unrequited?  So now this little beauty sits on my bedside table and provides me with joy on a regular basis.  I know - kind of amazing from a little plant, no?  I highly recommend creating your own.  I know I plan to have a few around the new apartment...

Planted is part of Chandra Abel Designs - an event floral design firm located in Orange County.  Such beautiful work - definitely check out her website.  She loves what she does and you can certainly tell.

DEAR SUMMER...

Thank you for staying so long, but it is time for you to go now.  Yes, I will miss you, but I have sweaters and boots and scarves to wear, hot chai tea to drink, apple pies to bake, and fires to gaze into.  Lets have one last hoorah before you leave to celebrate just how long you've been here.  How about a garden party?

SMALL TOWN LIVING

Smaller towns often seem like they consist solely of shopping centers with big box stores and chain restaurants.  It makes the city girl in me want to cry.  Vacaville, CA is nothing to write home about... or so it may appear from the freeway.  There are two noteworthy treasures that inspire me to lead a conscious lifestyle and eat organic and local foods; live off the land if you will. Soul Food Farm and Morningsun Herb Farm (conveniently located just down the country road from eachother).

Soul Food Farm raises pastured chickens for both eggs and meat. Stop by and pick up a dozen fresh eggs or plan to attend one of their events that most often feature local bay area chefs in a country casual atmosphere.

If you aren't a gardener already, Morningsun Herb Farm will quickly transform you. They carry any variety of herb and plant that you could possibly want not to mention the farm is so lovely it is nice to stop by for a visit with or without a gardening project in mind. Like Soul Food Farm, they host events throughout the year as well as big sales on plants that seem to come with the change of the seasons.
